Small town Ohakune offers big town shopping
Ohakune shops have the widest range of goods
So you think Ohakune is all restaurants and ski shops? True, there are a few, but there are also more than 25 other retail businesses where you can buy anything from the family roast to the latest fashion garments from top manufacturers. Along Clyde Street there is Pastimes selling antiques and second hand goods, The Sheepskin Shop with leather jackets, rugs and souvenirs plus lots of other sheepskin products. Next door is the famous Bucks Drapery an old-fashioned clothing store selling new fashioned men's and boys', women's and girls' wear. Bucks is famous after featuring in a television advertisement for shorts, where a family of boys, with mum, terrorise the shopkeeper. Ohakune TV & Electrical is the next shop up the street, where you can buy the latest in microwaves, videos, TVs, fridges, you name it. They also sell
giftware and records and tapes. Then there i s Ohakune Sports and Gifts, where Snow Brannigan has his anamunition workshop. There you can buy a shotgun for duck shooting or a football for goal shooting. Past Ohakune's public library is Wholesome Foods a shop that sells all sorts of good things to eat, - fresh fruit and vegetables, dried fruit and nuts and lots of health food products. Dew Drop Inn is hard to miss with its bright orange facade. This burger bar has built up a good reputation in the short time it has been in Ohakune. On the corner of Clyde and Goldfinch Streets is Machinery Supplies Ohakune's small engine repair shop, which is also the franchise holder for a new type of tungsten chainsaw chain that outlasts other types by as much as 50 times. On the other corner of Goldfinch and Clyde Street is Covers, the upholster-
ers, who sell furniture and rugs as well as repairing couches and carseats, tarpaulins and boat covers. The also sell kitchenware, omaments and soft toys. Alpine Flowers is next door to Covers on Clyde Street for you when there is a special occasion or when you want to make an occasion special. Dawn can deliver flowers for you, and as your local Teleflora agent, can have flowers delivered worldwide. Video Point next door is part of a Taumarunui based video tape library chain and has a wide variety of movies for you to hire. Their catalogue is updated regularly, with new titles to suit most tastes. For affordable clothing nip into Factory Fashions where they have clothing for all the family and a selection of fabrics for the home sewer. Just around the corner is a wonderful wine shop. Being an independent wine outlet Waimarino Wines are able
to stock lots of different labels, so that they rival many city outlets in their selection. For a quick snack there is Friar Tucks along a bit - ask them to .build you a sandwich, and choose the fillings you want. Cedar Tyres and Service Centre is very close, where you can have your petrol tank filled, plus all the service you expect for your car. You can also check out some great deals on tyres and accessories. Cedar also do mechanical repairs and warrants of fitness. Across the road from Covers is the new A A agency where you can ask for directions to any of the Ohakune shops as well as about all the normal AA services. The Waimarino Bulletin office is next door to the AA and here you can pick up a copy, order a reprint of a Bulletin photograph, or place an ad in the classifieds.
