All-day bowls event

Last Sunday saw the official start to the 1987/88 outdoor bowls season and to mark the event, an all day tournament was held at the Ohakune Bowling Club green. Teams from as far north as Turangi and Taumarunui,

as well as several from the Wairnarino took part in the competition. The winning team and runners-up at the end of the day received prizes of groceries and small consolation prizes. The winning team of W. Fetzer, E. Maxwell, J.

Phillips and O. Hammond narrowly beat runners-up J. Weir, J. Schrier, C. Kaiwhare and L. Bryan by drawing their fifth game, after both teams had won four games. The runners-up won a play-off against three other teams for second place.
