Egyptian princess helps psychic to see
Like all show people, Johnny Sheridan is a superstitious man. The hypnotist never eats before a show, he never whistles in his dressing room and most importantly of all, he never, ever goes around to the front of the house before a show (except of course when his crew is so small that he has to be lighting and
sound technician as well as performer). Mr Johnny Sheridan is an internationally renowned hypnotist who is presently residing in Turangi. He is also a man who claims he was born with a gift - a gift consisting of an amazing psychic ability, an ability which he says has been in his family since the 16th century. Using tarot cards, a person's handwriting and aura
and with some guidance from his spirit guide, a reincarnated Egyptian princess named Mary, Mr Sheridan claims to be able to tell things about your personality, and to sometimes foresee future events before they happen. He feels that it is hard for the average person to understand his ability but says, "That for every five sceptics there is one believer and that one believer
makes it worthwhile". He believes that, "Everyone is born with the third eye, that is the eye of knowledge, unfortunately not everyone learns how to use this knowledge". Mr Sheridan has made a lot of predictions. These include that "someone is going to catch a 14 pound rainbow trout from the Tongariro River before the end of the year" and that "sometime before December, some lucky people on Waiotahi Beach will get to witness White Island blowing itself up". Other predictions are that "there will be a terrible eruption in Waitapu", "there will be a new Premiere in Queensland within
the next year", and that "Turangi will have an Indian summer interspersed with thunder storms". Johnny Sheridan is now retired and is a pensioner. He was originally a showman and travelled all around New Zealand and Australia following the fairs and A & P Shows. On 24 September at the Founders Theatre in Hamilton, Johnny Sheridan did his first hypnotism show in 30 years. He believes that hypnotism is pure showmanship - "the aim of the show for the hypnotist is to make people do things, for the hypnotised it is a chance to do things that the inner part of them that has always wanted to be in the limelight wants to do,
without having to later take the responsibility for. "A person who is hypnotised can never be made to do anything that is really against their will," he says. However Sheridan also believes that "a true hypnotist should always only let his guests do what he would be prepared to do himself". His shows are usually packed to the doors and he claims that he can use his psychic abilities to predict within a hundred people what his audience attendance figures will be. One personal rule he lives by is that he never uses stooges in his shows to get the ball rolling. Mr Sheridan is appearing tonight at the Ohakune Hotel.
