Labour Weekend pig hunt winners

Winning pig hunting team member Geoff Gillet wasn't saying anything about where the winning 87 kilogram boar was found, when the pig was put on the scales on Monday. Geoff and team mates John Brown and Donald Parkes took first prize, $700, in the annual Waimarino Pig Hunting Club Labour Weekend hunt. They also took the prize for the biggest tusks, a Swandri donated to the competition by Winestones Afforestation. Second prize boar, $300,

went to the team of Ricky Vaughan, Kevin Hall and Donald Reid. Third prize boar, $100, went to Terry Baxter and B. Hodges. The heaviest sow was brought in by Tom and Ray Spry, winning them $200. Les Parr and Chris Winter collected the prize for second heaviest sow, and Selwyn Herewini took third. In the junior competition, Dalton Waara brought in the heaviest eel and Hayden Hall the heaviest Opossum. Sponsors of the competition were Raetihi Hotel, Barret and Taura, Ohakune

Butchery Winestones Afforestation and Dominion Breweries.
