Mr Chapple said half the argument calling for greater flows would be lost if the coalition agreed to the principle of minimum flows. Another factor in tackling the water flow issue will be the government's sale of
assets to Electricorp according to Mr Chapple. He said the sale could be over by the end of the year and the government could take the opportunity to wash its hands of responsibility. Wanganui District Conservator John Ombler said a team of DoC staff would prepare a case, in time for the minimum flow hearing in May, arguing on biological, ecological and aesthetic grounds.
