LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Junction Post Office Dear Editor, I read with great sadness, that finally, the Ohakune Junction Post Office is indeed to "bite the dust" after 83 odd years sincere service to the community. I feel very strongly that such a 'grand little lady' (still in the almost origi-
nal form that I remember as a child) should be given the dignity of retiring as part of this town i.e. being retained in present form at least and not being sold off cheaply for trendy refurbishment or whatever. I believe this must be an urgent decision. My childhood was probably influenced more than most by that building since my mother was Postmistress during the '50s and '60s, but I'm aware also how it was a centrepoint in the Junction shopping area for hundreds more New Zealanders who spent part of their lives in the railway settlement as well. The settlement is now 4 tattered shadow of its former self, but thankfully its wonderful colour and history is well recorded and kept in this district by caring, farsighted people. I feel it's very important that this history is housed publicly and its preservation could be maintained in the Post Office as a living museum. I urge other citizens to support this.

Chemist support Dear Editor, I wonder if people support their local chemist by taking their prescriptions to her. The chemist needs our continuing support as this is a particularly vulnerable time, when there is no doctor at Raetihi. Likewise all local business people should be given our support as far as possible.
