All Roads Lead To The King Country

ALL roads will be leading to Taumarunui "Heart of the King Country" this weekend, 16-18 October, when those associated with the road transport industry will celebrate the first ever Taumarunui and District Road Transport Reunion. An interesting programme has been organised and those who attend this memorable occasion will be guaranteed a weekend of tall tales (such as pulling unbelievable loads over Ihe Punga), wining and (ji/11'ng in true King Country fashion and, of course, renewing old acquaintances and making new friends. PROGRAMME Friday: Late aftemoon and evening - informal get-together "Happy Hour" but you pay for remaining refreshments. View photographs and static displays of memorabilia. Tea, coffee and light supper available. Saturday: 1 0.00am Grand parade of vintage and modern road transport along Taumarunui^ main street which will be closed to normal traffic until midday. The parade will commence from the Cosmopolitan Club in Katarina Street and finish near the Taumarunui Memorial Hall where the public are welcome to view the vehicles before they are shifted to the Taumarunui Domain (Turaki Street side) for the official welcoming ceremony at 1.00pm. Picnic lunches or takeaways will also be available for those who want to relax on the lawns opposite the shopping centre. 1.00pm Brief official welcome. Selected items from Wanganui Highland Pipe Band.

Decade photographs on Taumarunui Domain by Ron Cooke. Group photographs will be taken of different eras and of staff groups requested by any particular company. This will be the perfect opportunity to catch up with those missed during the parade of vehicles. A sponsored "Happy Hour" will follow the photograph session. 6.00pm Cocktail Hour followed by Reunion Buffet Dinner with a special interlude for oldest pioneers. Live music by Richard Edwards and his band. Sunday: 1 1.00am Farewell and box luncheon. Also viewing decade photos taken previous day. Information Centre An information centre and collection point for function tickets and name tags will be manned Friday evening and Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Sports Centre, Turaki Street, Taumarunui, and on Saturday morning at the Taumarunui Promotions Office (under the Town Clock).
