Fun Day deemed a roaring success
The sceptics said it couldn't be done - organising a major community oriented fund-raising venture in just three weeks, but the hard-core committee of Chills Off proved them wrong and enjoyed a successful Fun Day over the weekend. More than 100 people - competitors and spectators - completed the triangular circuit on Sunday, that began at Ski FM's station at the Ohakune Junction and finished at the Ohakune Club, taking in Tohunga Road, Valley Road and Raetihi. Ten teams of five cycled, chased tennis balls and pushed wheel-barrows with their sights set firmly on the $250 prize money up for grabs for the first three teams home. Phone bases were set up in Raetihi and Ohakune where people phoned in their pledges of money and issued challenges. Chills Off secretary Lance Langdon was unable to supply the Bulletin with a total of the money raised from the day, but was optimistic that the total would be close to the committee's expectations of S10,000. Mr Langdon said money raised from the sale of raffles and activities was still to be totalled
while pledges are still forthcoming. Results: lst "The Pressure Cookers" 600pts, 2nd Ruapehu Hotel 570pts, 3rd Cosmopolitan Club 540pts, 4th "Karate Kids II" 440pts, 5th "Karate Kids I" 400pts, 6th College
