Junction Post Office to close
The Ohakune Junction Post Office will close permanently from 1pm Friday 27 November due to what New Zealand Post described as consequences of the current economic climate. The branch's future has been in jeopardy for some time with it's closure being considered on two or three occasions before the advent of "New Zealand Post". A notice placed in the window advises that alternative arrangements will be made for those customers who collect their mail at the office. Ohakune Post Manager Stuart Magge said their were 14 private boxes and six people who collected their mail over the counter
at the branch office. About one third of the box holders are businesses, he said. At present the office is open from 9 am to 1pm five days per week. Options open to people who currently collect their mail at the office are to take a box at the Ohakune
Post Office, collect it from the counter at thr. same office or have it delivered by postman or rur&l delivery contractor. The office is run by Yvonne Campbell, who is a relieving worker for New Zealand Post. After the closure Mrs Campbell will
continue to do relieving work at the Ohakune Post Office. The Junction Post Office has been operating from the present building since 1914.
