Top day for Turoa races
About 80 North Island ski racers enjoyed top conditions for the Rossignol Giant Slalom at Turoa on Saturday. The race was run in perfect weather, with hard packed snow in the morning softening in the mild conditions later in the day. The organisers and sponsors decided to run the event in the weekend after it was cancelled in August due to the lack of snow at the time. New Zealand Ski Team member Mattias Hubrich took first place in the men's competition with a time of 1.53.42. In second place was National Park skier Ben Tidswell at 1:57:05, with Joe Moffett close behind with a time of 1:57:58. Taupo 's Lisa Powell took the women's event 2:02:32, Kate Reaney was second with 2:07:77. Merran Clarke was third with a time of 2:14:14.
Mathew Bramley of Ohakune was first in the junior men's event and Tarra Darlow, also from Ohakune was first in the junior women's.
