Raetihi to be beautiful

'Keep New Zealand Beautiful' is an on-going campaign by a national organisation to improve the appearance of the country and educate the public about the importance of caring for their environment. Raetihi has taken up the cause with a 'Keep Raetihi Beautiful' committee which was established last week. A group of 10 people attended the public meeting which was the second attempt to establish a committee. The first meeting was cancelled due to lack of numbers. The committee will . be approaching businesses and organisations initially and have decided to centre their first project around improving the appearance of Seddon Street. A report released by the Field Officer for the central North Island who visited the Waimarino recently, will serve as a guideline for the committee to follow. The report outlines areas of acclaim and concern and suggests what may be done to improve certain areas of the town. Copies of the report will be printed and circulated to businesses and service clubs. A number of organisations have already registered their support for the group, including Lions and Rotary Clubs, Raetihi Primary School and the Ohakune Borough Council.
