TNP celebrations
Cont'd from p. 1 School, which included a number of Maori action songs and poi dances, a play put on by all the pupils of National Park School about the separation of Rangi and Papa, and a skit concerning the problems of litter in the National Park. The singing of the centennial song 'Parks For People' by the more than 3,000 celebrators concluded the ceremony. Continuous showings of films and videos at the visitor centre and chateau, various walks and an historic walk of the village featured in the aftemoon. Three books were launched during the week of celebrations, including 'Heritage: Parks of the People' by David Thom, 'Tongariro' by Craig Potton, and 'Skiing on the Volcano' by Karen Williams and Dave Bamford.
