Ruapehu racers sponsored
The Whakapapa Moro Race Team has recently secured sponsorship for a three year period from Cadbury Schweppes Hudson. The Team Secretary, Mrs K. Powell, has expressed delight in receiving this support as costs to promote and support team members have risen considerably over the last few years. Cadbury's sponsorship will go directly to assist funding of new race uniforms for the 21 team members. Recently the team took part in New Zealand National Points Races at both Coronet Peak and Mount Hutt and it is now preparing for the North Island Races including the Bolle
National Skiing Championships. Mrs Powell said improving standards have made it imperative that our skiers gain as much experience as possible in order to have any chance of making it to the top. "To this end we acknowledge the scholarship from Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Ltd to fund expenses and airfares for two members of the Whakapapa Moro Race Team to train and race in the United States this coming winter". Further support for the Whakapapa Moro Race Team has been given by "Ski Your Heart Out" Ltd of Auckland, AMP Society and the Whakapapa Ski
Foundation. Their support has greatly assisted the team in meeting training costs and travelling expenses throughout the season. It is hoped that fresh snowfalls will allow the team to complete their season's programme.
