Check your car registration
Vehicle owners are being urged to check the expiry month on their relicensing stickers to ensure they are not driving an unlicensed vehicle. Mr J.W. Small, district manager for New Zealand Post, said there are probably drivers and motorcyclists in the district with outdated stickers. The old system of relicensing vehicles in June every year stopped in 1986 and vehicle owners now receive computer produced relicensing renewal notices. But, says Mr Small, some may not have received
their notice for a variety of reasons. However, he said it is the motorist's responsibility to make sure their vehicle is relicensed by the due date. They can do this by going to their nearest Post Office and filling out the form MR 1B. Motorists may not have received renewal notices because they did not notify the Motor Registration Centre in Palmerston North of a change of address. This should be done on form MR 58. They may have bought the vehicle within the six weeks before registration was due which would leave insuffi-
cient time to update the computer records before printing and renewal notice. If this happens the notice would be sent to the former owner. Another common delay is caused by owners quoting incorrect details such as wrong registration plate numbers on change of ownership forms. Mr Small said that if motor vehicle or motorcycle owners had not received a renewal notice through the post by the middle of the month renewal is due, then they should go to the nearest Post Office and relicense the vehicle on the form MR 1B.
