WAIMARINO RED CROSS PREPARE EMERGENCY KITS
Members of the Waimarino Red Cross have been busy preparing emergency toilet kits. There are many emergency situations in which such kits have been used. Destructive house fires; situations which necessitate a family having to vacate their house in a hurry and be accommodated elsewhere. Such examples include earthquakes, land slips, flooding, severe storm damage and bush fires. Kits have also been used in Civil Defence disasters in the welfare section. The kits contain, soap, flannel, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo. Also razor and sanitary aids.* Most of the contents have been donated by firms and service organisations from within and outside the Waimarino* Red Cross is grateful to the donors. Normally recipients of
Red Cross aid are those referred by local services such as Fire Brigade, Police, Transport Department Officers (following road accidents requiring hospitalisation of injured people), local authorities, Church Welfare Organisations and Civil Defence. But Red Cross also receives requests direct from distressed families. Further enquiries regarding the kits or other Red Cross Services in the Waimarino can be directed to Sue Kumeroa, or Nigel and Shelagh Buck of Ohakune. Red Cross holds its Annual General Meeting tomorrow evening. (See Public Notices). The theme of this year's meeting will be Outdoor and Mountain Safety. Anyone interested in this theme in particular or Red Cross activities in general is cordially invited to attend. *Separate kits are available for men, women and children.
