World Class complex for Ohakune
Exciting developments are afoot for the Waimarino, with the proposed construction of a 92-unit Hotel complex in the area. Building is expected to commence sometime in November. Ohakune businessman Mike Wiggins, the Chairman of the Board of Directors connected with the development, told the Bulletin that an "expatriate New Zealander", currently residing in London, is to invest "many millions of dollars" in the area, in a five-year development plan which includes construction of a conference centre, ice-skating rink, squash courts and health centre. The wealthy entrepreneur who name was not disclosed, is due in New Zealand very shortly, according to Mr Wiggins. Mr Wiggins said negotiations with local authorities are still underway, so many details about the development will not be divulged until a later date. He said that the complex will employ 150 people. "Someone has to put an international class facility in the area sometime," he said. "The complex will mean a tremendous input into the community."
