TOURING WORLD WITH MOTOR BIKE AND TRAILER

Travelling around the world on a motorcycle may not be everyone's ideal but it is the lifetime ambition of American LeRoy Knierim. Mr Knierim, a retired contract engineer, describes himself as "a permanent touring motorcyclist." He has extensively toured the United States and vis-

ited every state at least twice on his Suzuki 850cc bike which he has owned for four years. In that time it has clocked up 166,000 miles (267,260km), and had virtually no mechanical problems. Mr Knierim carries all his worldly possessions in a pop-top trailer campervan towed behind his bike, which weighs around 230kg fully loaded. The camper is ideally

suited to his needs, serving as accommodation and a mobile storage unit. He is in New Zealand for 12 months on an extended tourist visa and is following the motorcycle rally circuit. He attended the Cold Kiwi motorcycle rally at Waiouru last weekend. Mr Knierim believes it will take him 10 years or more to travel around the world and see all there is to see. "I'm in no hurry anyway," he said.
