Holden Premier Restored To Former Shining Glory
EVERY now and then Owhango's sleepy main street is startled by a gold streak. I he car is a 1 963 Holden Premier, and Ihe driver is Warren Begg. Warren and Joy Begg run a panelbeating business and Warren recently completed restoration work on his Holden. Warren bought the car from a lady in Auckland who had owned it for 18
years. A dent in the right side had prompted her to sell, under the advice of her insurance man. Warren and Joy became the car's third owners. The mileage was a mere 49,000 miles. Warren took the car to his garage and stripped it down completely. Hetheninstalled a Chevrolet 350 V8 motor, which is decorated with chrome and is unbelievably spotless and shiney, and fitted mag wheels.
Smart custom-made carpets come from Australia and many hours were put into the restoration of the extensive chrome work. The colour of the car is its original gold and the seats are of highly polished leather. In all, the restoration took over a year and now the work is over Warren has the car on the market. An irony of this story is that Warren remembers
working on this very car twenty years ago! The car came in for repairs when Warren served his apprenticeship at Paine Bros (Motors) Ltd. The dashboard still bears the service sticker to prove it! A ride in the car simply adds to the awe. With just a little throttle this automatic beast absolutely flies. It's little wonder Warren recommends it for hotrodding.
