Jaguar E Type Always Popular Model
I he Jaguar E Type Sports Coupe will always be remembered for the length of time it was in production. Born in the United Kingdom in 1961 it remained extremely popular until 1975 when it was superseded by the XJS. I he early models were fitted with an optional 3.8 or 4.2 litre engine 6 cylinder in line D.O.H.C.. They were known in some countries as the XK.E, but whate'ver country it appeared in it was always admired for its long sleek bonnet and sporty appearance. The car was
also available as a convertible. Ihe E Type remained unaltered, apart from minor cosmetic changes, until 1966. Then the wheelbase was increased, the front screen enlarged and the roof altered. The 3.8 litre engine was also dropped in favour of the larger 4.2 unit. The Series II model was introduced in 1968 and the Series III model made its appearance in 1971 fitted with an optional V 1 2 engine of 5.3 litre capacity along with a new grill and other minor body changes.
I he model, presently on display and for sale at Ironbridge Motors in Wanganui, is a 1969 model powered by a 4.2 litre XJ6 engine. It was bought secondhand in England in 1974 by a Wanganui businessman, then sold to a Christchurch owner before coming back to Wanganui in 1983. All records dating back to 1974 are available along with a very recent A.A. report and a valuation from the local agents. The price is $30,000.
