TREMOR FELT

A light to moderate earthquake was felt in parts of the Waimarino at 5.23pm last Wednesday evening. It was the fifth in a series of tremors felt over the past three weeks and was stronger and of longer duration than the previous ones. This one was felt as two tremors lasting 8-10 seconds with a 2-3 second interval between. According to the Seismological Observatory in Wellington this latest earthquake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and was centred north of Wanganui at a depth of 200kms.
