LETTER

While researching a book on the New Zealand Soldier from the First World War through to Vietnam I was handed a diary written by a Kiwi Soldier who enlisted at Waikatani (sic*) on January 2 1917. He was Mr E.M. Ingram whose army no. was 42110. It is a remarkable document that takes Mr Ingram through his training and eventually into the horrors of trench warfare in France. Before he passed away Mr Ingram gave the diary to an army chaplain who, in tum, handed it to Mr Gordon Munro former president of the Christchurch Returned Services Association. Mr Munro asked me to have the diary made available to the New

Zealand public under the title ANZAC DIARY which I am doing through Treharne Publishers. We have had considerable difficulty in tracing any cf Mr Ingram's relatives or any other people who have known him. The publishers would very much appreciate being notified of any information regarding the relatives or friends. If anyone can assist us, would they please write to: Geoff McDonald, Treharne Publishers (Melbourne), P.O. Box 30055, Wainoni, Christchurch. *We have checked this name and it does not appear on any contemporary map. We think it may be a mis-spelling of Whakatane. (Editor).
