Tug-of-war takes up the strain
The Tug-of-War Competition run by the Ruapehu College Old Boys Sports Club last Wednesday at the Raetihi Gym attracted only a few but experienced teams. The evening was compered by Ray Huriwaka and was enjoyed by those who attended. In the women's section the second place getters "Rosalie's Bits and Pieces" were a very professional team in their attitude and technique and they were the favourites to win but the heavier "RCOB Anybodies" managed a fluke win to defeat them in the final. "Robert Harris' Labour Party" were too strong for their opponents and beat every team they came up against. The results were: Women's Section 1 . RCOB Scratch-Up Team, 2. Rosalie's Bits and Pieces, 3. Cindy's Oddfellows. Men's Section 1. Robert Harris' Labour Party, 2. RCOB Workers, 3. Hoppy's Heroes. Booby Prizes Funniest Face - Ladies, Maxine Pue; Men, Vernon Brown. Losers and best triers - Tania Hinana and the Gals. The local teams have been entered to take part in the Whakapapa section of the competition. Prizes were donated by the Junction Ski Shop.
