Overnight Wednesday, ! McLean's Bookshop in' Seddon St, Raetihi was broken into and a quantity of jewellery stolen. Thieves smashed a display window to gain entry. ★ ★★ Three staff members of Wrightson's Dalgety in Raetihi thwarted the plans of a burglar who broke into the building at 12.30am Friday morning. The employees apprehended the 21-year old Raetihi man who had stacked $2300 goods on the floor of the shop, while preparing to remove the property through a skylight. The man was detained until Police arrived. He will be ap-
pearing in the Ohakune District Court on 24 September, charged with burglary. ★ ★★ A caravan at the Raetihi Motor Camp was discovered to have been broken into, the offence having occurred sometime between Sunday 23 August and last Friday. Stolen articles included a foam mattress, blankets, pillows and a piece of carpet. Police enquiries are continuing. ★ ★★ Ohakune Police arrested a 25-year old escapee from Rangipo Prison Farm in the Waimarino on Wednesday afternoon. The man concerned will be appearing in the Taupo Court on 9 September and faces an additional charge of burglary of a house on Pipiriki Road recently. *** A house at Makaranui, six kilometres from Ohakune was broken into on Wednesday evening. A Fosters Lager money tin containing a quantity of coinage was taken.
