Ski races cancelled

The Homestyle Rossignol North Island Ski Championship scheduled to be heid at Turoa Skifields in the weekend was cancelled. The decision was announced following the mechanical failure of the skifield's Giant Chairlift last week. Turoa's marketing manager, Andy Chapman said there would be enormous logistic difficulties to try and run the race event without the chairlift. "While we are still able to access the upper T-bar slopes using the Movenpick Quad Chairlift and the Jumbo T-bar, it would be extremely difficult to transport race equipment and service the race course without the giant Chairlift in operation." A failure of the chairlift's main gearbox had caused the problem. It is expected to be out of operation for at least two weeks.
