Ward changes called for

At last week's meeting County Councillor Gavin Jones put forward a resolution that council approve a proposal for the reorganisation of the ridings and councillor representation, pending amalgamation of the three authorities in February 1988. The move will mean that the number of representatives of the Waimarino County Council are to be reduced from eight to five.

The resolution also requested that the present Ohakune riding be dropped, to avoid confusion with the future Ohakune Borough riding. The council resolved to combine the Parapara and Huikumu ridings, to be renamed the Hukuroa riding which would be represented by one councillor. They also resolved that the present Ohakune riding be divided between the Maunganui and Karioi ridings; these two ridings would in turn be represented by two councillors.
