Hospital's top nurse on duty
Meet Eve Rush, Waimarino Hospital's new principal nurse who took up duties at the Hospital recently. Eve was born and educated in Wanganui and underwent general nursing training at Wanganui Base Hospital. She worked in the operating theatre there for a year, then went overseas on a working holiday to Britain for 15 months where she worked at the King Edward VH Hospital in Sussex.
Eve returned to Wanganui for a short time before moving on to Wellington where she trained for a post certificate degree in theatre. After successfully completing the course, she went on to Auckland and managed ear, eye, nose and throat theatres for two years. She has also worked in Princess Mary Children's
Hospital in Auckland and studied for a post certificate nursing course in paediatrics. In 1977, Eve was appointed nurse at Wanganui Collegiate where she stayed for two and a half years. Finally in 1980, she was appointed to Auckland Technical Institute as a tutor of child and family health.
Her position at Waimarino Hosptial will involve a combination of administration, patient care, staff and patient education and community liason. Eve was given an official welcome by staff and the community last week. She was delighted to be given a Waiata by the Maori community of the Waimarino. Eve said she enjoys tramping, cycling and swimming and is keen to make use of the facilities offered in the area. She is also a keen photographer, and enjoys pencil sketching.
