Sun shines on Society shop day
Nancy Winter said the Waimarino' s crippled children's shop day held Iast Wednesday in Raetihi was the best in ten years as far as weather goes. The shop day is held every year to raise money for the 28 registered crippled children in the Waimarino. The Crippled Children's Society group sold raffles, new hand knitted children's clothing, second hand goods, and moccasins and cane work made at the Wanganui Crippled Children's Centre. The group use the shop next to the IGA store loaned to them by Graeme Fredericksen, the proprieter of the IGA. Elders Pastoral and Waimarino Lions made generous donations to the fund, said Nancy Winter. Thanks to the beautiful weather on Wednesday last week the group had sold half of the goods by lunch time with many hours to goNancy Winter said she has been involved with the shop days for about 25 years. The total proceeds for the day, around $1200, was down on previous years. Last year the shop day raised around $2000.
