Turoa bar opens

Turoa Skifields is the first North Island field to be granted a liquor licence. Skiers are now able to relax during their visit to the Turoa slopes with hot spiced wine, Irish coffee and a choice of • New Zealand and imported beer and wine. The alcoholic beverages are being served in Turoa's Alpine Lodge at the base of the skifield. The lodge has just been refurbished and carpeted and people can enjoy a drink at the bar beside a large roaring fire. The provisions of Turoa's food and entertainment licence mean people wishing to drink alcohol must purchase food as well.

New Zealand Ski Fields' marketing manager Mr Andy Chapman said people are already appreciating the new apres ski facility at Turoa's Alpine Lodge and some are skiing down to the lodge to order a beer or other refreshments with lunch. "Our aim is to be New Zealand's top skifield. Today, international skiers and New Zealanders expect to be able to order a drink with their meals and I am pleased we can now offer a facility which is taken for granted in ski resorts overseas", he said. Turoa is able to serve liquor from 10.30am to 4.40pm under the terms of their licence.
