Garage solves traffic problem
Cedar Service Centre has found a solution to its problem of trucks blocking the footpath in Clyde Street as well as their own entrance way. The diesel pump has been relocated on adjacent, previously vacant land, and new footpath cross-overs have been created. The pump had been close to the road, sometimes making it easier for articulated trucks to park right on the footpath to fill up, rather than negotiate the tight turns of the entrance to the garage. In some cases trucks were parked with their trailers still out on the street, which is part of State Highway 49. Council had asked the garage to comply with the by-law requiring them to have a protection barrier between the pump and footpath. The alternative solution of moving the pump has the added advantage of al-
lowing more room for car access as well as trucks, says proprietor Warren Swaine. "It's turned out to be an ideal solution to the problem we were experiencing"
said Mr Swaine. The pump will soon be fitted with key controls, which will allow for regular customers to fill up with diesel 24 hours a day. The area was previously
used unofficially as a carpark by some hotel patrons, but this shouldn't pose a problem says Warren as there is a large carpark behind the hotel for patrons.
