Housie helps out hospital
The Waiouru Military Hospital Maternity Annexe was the recent beneficiary of a generous donation from the organisers of Waiouru's "Wednesday Night Housie" at the Community Centre. Two Waiouru ladies, Chris Langley and Mary Hume, took over responsibility for the Housie from 4-
Composite Squadron in April 1986. In just nine months they faised over $1600. The ladies settled upon the Maternity Annexe as a worthy recipient because of the number of women who patronise housie who have passed through the Annexe. Mrs Hume said anywhere between 14-100 women attend Housie each night. The money was originally
to be spent on the purchase of an Apnoea Monitor, used in the prevention of cot deaths. This idea was dropped in favour of letting the staff choose what the Hospital needed. Mrs Hume said the monitors supplied by the Wanganui Area Health Board are being upgraded all the time and it was not worthwhile purchasing one at present. Equipment chosen by the Hospital included an elec-
tric kettle, coffee mugs, a milk pot, shower tidies, two. portable radios, a toasted sandwich maker and two stable tables. The pair's licence to operate Housie runs out in October but they are optimistic that another charity may take over the licence. Mrs Langley leaves Waiouru in October and Mrs Hume leaves in December.
