Subsidy cut

The announcement by Government that the subsidy for wages and car expenses for Waimarino County Council's noxious plants officer would be phased out by the year 1989 was discussed in depth at the council's recent monthly meeting. From July this year the subsidy was reduced from 50 percent to 33 percent and from April next year will be brought down to 16 percent before it is completely phased out. The Waimarino district plants authority covers the Ohakune and Raetihi Boroughs. Chairman Con Heinold reported that a meeting held in Christchurch looked at the possibility of loeal authorities taking over pest control for their areas.
