Antique art in Auckland
"Opening up of the King Country, NZ" is the title of one of the 2000 or more antique prints and maps currently being exhibited at the Hyatt Kingsgate in Auckland. The exhibition organized by Sandilands and Paul, Australian antique print dealers, includes several works depicting scenes from the Wanganui River, the King Country and Lake Taupo. All of the works are for sale, though the average piece will be well out of reach for most people considering the price tags attached. The dearest is between $5000 and $6000, though prints are quoted as starting at $20 each. Works of local interest include: "Photographs in the 'King Country' of New Zealand", which is de-
scribed as showing the tribulations of early photography; an engraving showing a view of Ngaruhoe and several views
of Lake Taupo with the Tongariro Mountains in the distance. The exhibition is open until Saturday 1 August.
