Cancer-food topic at meeting
One of the major roles of the Wanganui-Rangitikei-Waimarino Centre of the Cancer Society is to educate people about cancer, discuss the various sites of the disease and suggest measures which can be taken to enjoy a healthy life style. On Thursday 30 July, the Waimarino Cancer Support Group is opening their meeting to members of the public in order to present the latest video release in the series "Can You Avoid Cancer?" entitled "The Food Connection". Throughout the world extensive research is underway to evaluate and clarify the whole diet and nutrition play in the development of cancer. At
this point no direct cause and effect relationship has been proved, though statistics show that some foods may increase or decrease the risks of certain types of cancer. This video, produced only last year, suggests possible cause and effect, examines statistics and explores a series of recommendations by which people may reduce their cancer risk. The public of the Waimarino area are invited to the screening of this video "The Food Connection" to be held on Thursday 30 July at the Lions' Den, Arawa Street, Ohakune at 7.45 p.m. Executive Officer of the Cancer Society, Robin Brassington, will be present to discuss this and other cancer-related problems with anyone who attends.
