Letter to the Editor

Please Explain It is with sheer amazement that many Waimarino County ratepayers read in the paper recently that the County intends to spend $227,000 on the mountain road this year. With last year's expense of $158,721

this makes a total of $385,721 spent in only two years. We would like to know why all this money and the time that goes with it is being spent on a road that does not have one ratepayer on it and is being used to profit a private concern. There are roads in the County which are in a shocking state and when ratepayers ask for something to be done, are told there is no money available. As for charging a $50 fee on some ratepayers as well as their rates, because in some cases they do not pay large rates on smaller sections, this is unbelievable. It seems the County, in all its wisdom, has gone right off the rails of reality. i P.S. Bishop
