Film inspires new name

At about the same time the American film 'The Big Chill' was screened on New

Zealand television, two young entrepreneurs were looking for a name

for their new restaurant in Ohakune. Andrew Scott 21, and Eliot Falconer 20, liked the film's name and sound track so much, they renamed what was previously The Lovin' Spoonful "The Big Chill". Since opening three weeks ago, they have been well patronized by locals and visitors. Their restaurant provides a combination of easy listening blues music, a good selection of main courses at reasonable cost and a good attitude to serving the public. Both men are keen skiers and intend to make use of the facilities on the mountain this season as well as running the restaurant in the evenings. Originally from Wellington, their partnership started while they were at school. Eliot has worked as manager of O'Reilly's liquor outlet in Taupo where he gained valuable public relations experience. Andrew undertook a 3-year Hotel Management course and has worked at the Hyatt in Queensland, the Fitzherbert Tavern, Palmerston North and Independent Taverns in Wellington. The pair modelled their business on some of the successful restaurants in the Wellington region. Their aim is to keep prices down while still maintaining high standards and great taste. They are keen to keep the restaurant open over the summer, but say it depends on interest shown by the public.
