Rally roars through Waimarino
Two stages of the AWA Clarion Rally were run in the Waimarino on Sunday. Stage number 21 was held on Winstone Afforestation land, in the Waimarino Forest, and Stage 22 was held in Karioi Forest, near Waiouru. The rally started in Auckland on Saturday moming, going through 17 stages before the Hikimutu Road stage, near Owhango. The next two stages took the rally from Owhango down Kawautahi Road, then from Kaheke to Raurimu. Raetihi spectators were able to see the support crews in action in Seddon Street before and after the "Air New Zealand Waimarino Forest" stage. Spectators had a long cool wait for the Karioi Forest stage which was delayed by about half an hour. It proved to be quite spectacular even in the fading light. There were several fords in the Karioi stage, including seven in the last 2km before the Desert Road.
