Raetihi visit

A recent report compiled for the central North Island region by Alison Turner, field officer for 'Keep New Zealand Beautiful', was released at the Raetihi Borough Council's recent monthly meeting. Miss Turner visited Raetihi in May, subsequent to a public meeting in Raetihi that identified issues of importance to residents of the town. The report outlined some important comments and
suggestions for improving the appearance of the township, including tidying up entrances to Raetihi; better signposting of the entrance from Pipiriki; creating points of interest with the placement of old machinery; enhancing the commercial area of Raetihi by planting trees and small shrubs; the placement of more rubbish bins around the township; tidying up vacant sections and highlighting already attractive amenities. Miss Turner was impressed with the overall appearance of the town but made the comment that attractive facilities need to be highlighted and made more accessible to visitors to the town.
