Farmers generous playcentre
Raetihi Playcentre's recent 'Stock Drive' was extremely successful thanks to the generosity of Waimarino farmers, according to Playcentre's vice president Marie Scarrow. Fund-raising began earlier this year for the building of a covered play area which will provide youngsters with a sandpit area during the winter months. Mrs Scarrow, her husband Kevin and their young daughters visited about 60 farms between Makaranui, Ruatiti, Pipiriki and the Parapara Highway in just two days, collecting stock donated by local farmers. Local stock agent Brian Chambers then donated his time to sell the animals on behalf of the Play Centre. Mrs Scarrow said proceeds from the sale are expected to be between $500$600. "A number of those farmers who donated sheep are rft directly involved with Play Centre but were still willing to respond. It's a fantastic effort."
