CHILDREN'S CORNER

KID'S STUFF I thought we went on a fascinating wonderful mat and I thought the magic word was "mat into the sky" and we heard God sing. That was so beautiful that we danced off the mat. Marino. Help me Help Once there was a captain who had a big boat. When he started they went off course somehow. There was a war once there and there still could be floating mines. Just then there was a jerk. They had hit a mine but it did not blow up instead it went under the boat and blew up. Everyone was screaming or dying. Soon everyone was in the water. Only some got to the life boats but some drowned or are holding on to a piece of the mast or something. But just then a plane came. I used my watch to get them to come by flashing it. Everyone alive got helped. Everyone lived. Raymond EarthQuake Earthquakes are things that happen in a lot of towns that can destroy them. Just like that! When it happens people get very scared. Some people go crazy because if their children are walking to school something might happen

to them AND they would be SCARED. Walter The Frog That Crawled Up My Leg "Help help" I screamed. "What's wrong?" gasped Mum. "I think a toad has crawled up my leg" "Well kick him off she yelled "I can't" "Why not?" "He's too big and heavy" Mum came. "He's nearly as big as me," she said standing in the doorway. "Can you come in and have a go at getting him off?" "All right. I'll come in and have a go" She came in. "I see what you mean." "He's even fatter than Ebony the lamb" Dad came in with some fish and chips in his hands. The frog saw him. Suddenly he jumped on top of Dad. Everyone laughed, including Dad. So from that day on Dad moved much more slowly. Sarah "Help, Help Me!" I was wandering through Mt Ruapehu National Park and "Suddenly a tree fell on me. It was after an earthquake. My mum and dad died and so I left home. By this time the civil defence was looking for victims. It was a fine day and I noticed that I had a mirror in my kit that I had prepared before the earthquake. I saw a Civil Defence chopper in the air. I used my mirror to get their attention. They saw the reflection. They came lower and

saw me under the tree. One of the men threw down a rope ladder. He pushed the tree off me. I was saved. "If I didn't have the mirror and didn't say, 'Help, Help Me!" I wouldn't be here now!" Justin Earthquakes Earthquakes are disastrous things that can strike at any time. The Civil Defence try to help us as much as they can in disastrous situations like earthquakes. Earthquakes are things that shake the earth and sometimes cracks the ground. To prevent something drastic happening to you I would suggest you look in the yellow pages, in the back and have a survival kit ready in case of an emergency. Raema Earthquakes Yesterday we were having a talk about earthquakes then we wrote down some things that would help us to survive in an earthquake if we were left at home for a week by ourselves. While we were waiting jfor a bell to ring for a practice of an earthquake there was a sudden shake. We thought it was just a little earthquake but then a big shake hit us. Mrs Heaphy called "Drop", we dived under our desks and waited until the Civil Defence people came to say it was alright. Heidi had a broken arm and Peter had concussion, we held on to the legs of the desk and shook. Suddenly BOOM! the heaters burst CRACK! the windows smashed. Some of the girls panicked including me. The Civil

Defence came to see conditions and the hurt were taken to hospital. We evacuated but soon it was over. What an exciting but scary experience. I'm glad it wasn't real. Megan I would survive. I would survive in a desert by drinking the juice out of a cactus. I'd shave it down on one side by using a piece of wood. I would use a special stick to find out if there was any water. I would put the stick into the sand. I would make a house out of sand and cactus juice. The juice out of the cactus would be used to wet the sand and I would use the roots out of the cactus for beams. I would peel the skin off the cactus and roll it up to make a blow pipe. I would use the spikes from the cactus for putting inside the skin-roll and I would blow them out and kill animals for food. Chad I slipped two times on the ice when I was skidding on the ice. And we went to see the ice tp remind us it is dangerous for us because it is slippery for us and slippery for other classes too, and for cars too and for every person who comes past my house. It would be slippery for National Park men too. Matthew My Rabbit Carol sent me a rabbit. I like my rabbit. My rabbit is pink with apricot ears. I have drawn my rabbit, it is cute. I brought my rabbit to school. I was going to have it for news.
