Welcome home

Raana 'Biddy' Mareikura was warmly welcomed home by her 'family' the people of the Maungarongo Marae, on Friday. Mrs Mareikura has recently returned from a 12day visit to Vancouver, Canada, where she attended a world conference on indigenous people's education. Her trip was made possible through fundraising by Maungarongo Marae, which raised over $2000. Kaumatua George Waretini welcomed her home and priest, Steve Hansey, offered prayers of thanks for her safe return. Mrs Mareikura's 'babies' - the children of the Kohanga Reo (language nest) also sang several songs.
