Army boosts College van fund
Ruapehu College's fund for the purchase of a new mini-van received a boost recently, thanks to the Warrant Officer's Promotion Course at Army Training Group, Waiouru. For some years Warrant Officers have actively fundraised for worthy community organisations as a part of their promotion course. The men are encouraged to take part in some form of community work during the 2-month course. In the past funds have gone to such organisations as SPCA and Waiouru Hospital. Last year saw the purchase of a foetal heart monitor for the unit. This year organisations were invited to approach the Warrant Officers with their requests for support. Ruapehu College's request for assistance in fund-rais-ing to purchase a new vehicle was chosen as the project. Through a series of raffles and a disco held at the Warrant Officers' and
Sergeants' mess in the camp, a total of $1000 was raised and the cheque presented to Ruapehu College Principal Ian Meredith. Mr Meredith said the money will join that which was raised during the college's recent Work Day. The school's existing mini-van used to transport
sports teams and cultural groups was past its best
and was inadequate for future outings, he said.
