Members of the Ruapehu College girls' basketball team potted goals frantically in a 2-hour 'Free Throw' held at the community gymnasium last Wednesday. Seven of the players took part in the event to raise money for the players to travel to Wanganui on Friday nights for the practice leagues run by national level coaches. The girls and their coach Bubs Hibbard have been making the trip since the beginning of June and Mrs Hibbard said already there is a tremendous improvement in their play. The Friday night league runs for eight weeks and the girls attempted to raise the money to cover the costs of travel and fees. Sponsors were sought for the event and team members attempted to shoot as many 'baskets' from a possible 50 goals within the two hours.
