CHILDREN'S CORNER

Pipiriki, Ngamatea and Orautoha schools are in this week's children's corner. The cow moos The wind blows the leaves Eels go down the silent river Melissa One stormy day As I went to school "SPLASH!" I stepped in a puddle And water came up to my face Sprinkling like rain Kirikowhai The tree moves slowly Along with the wind As I play with my cousin Tamati As the rain pours down on us We rush inside Or else we'll get wet Coming to school we wear our bush jackets to keep dry Shane I can see the tall trees Move in the wind And look down at me Betty The colours of the rainbow Shine in the blue sky They shine over the hills People gaze up at the rainbow Then it fades slowly away As the sun shines happily in the sky again Rayna Drizzle, drizzle drizzle Then the rain slowly stops The beautiful sun comes out from behind the dark clouds The black clouds slowly

drift away What a beautiful day Chon Rainbows come after the rain, when the land is soggy and wet. Sometimes we play in the puddles and our body reflects in the puddles like a sparkling clean mirror. The beautiful rainbow appears like a colourful picture. Nathan As the mist lifted over the hills And the sun woke up with a yawn The clouds drifted away like puffs of smoke People chatter like gossipy magpies Then the noise fades away as they drift off to work Roberta Bellbirds sing a note Trees are still as stone A 'plane passes by with a rumble The sun shines down and sparkles With the fresh smell of flowers about, the birds fly past with the wind behind them. White clouds break up in the blue sky And thick green grass reaches up to touch you Justin

The trees of Tane stand tall and proud The Tiwaiwaka and the Tui whistle their favourite chant, as they perch on the ponga tree. When I walk through the forest of Tane I see some bare trees, and feel so sad to see their branches with no leaves. One day those trees will have a new life again, As they breathe the restless winds of Tawhirimatea, again Lisa The Moon The sun shines on the moon then the light bounces on earth and that's how we get light. Alec P addington Bear One day at the station I saw a bear. His name was Paddington. When I took him to tea at the tearooms we stood at the counter. WE paid our money and sat down and waited for the sticky buns with cream and marmalade and Aunt Lucy was there too. Paddington Bear fell in it. Amanda Mount Ruapehu Mount Ruapehu has two other mountains around it. Their names are Mount Ngauruhoe and Mount Tongariro. Mount

Ngauruhoe is the most active volcano. The main volcano is Mount Ruapehu, it stands 9175 ft high and 2797 metres across. At the top of the mountain is a crater lake. On Christmas Eve 1953 it erupted and made a very bad flood which made the bridge come and a train went nose first into the river and killed 151 people. Jamie Cheetah Pounce's on prey. Runs as fast as the wind. It lies camouflaged in the grass. Huge Beast. Natalie Rain and Thunder When it was rainy I went out with my coat on and my umbrella and my boots. Mummy put on my gloves. People laughed at me. I didn't mind. I poked tongues at them. I ran home. I was wet through. When the rain went the rainbow came out. Corina Paddington Bear One Day Paddington Bear went to a lake. He took his fishing rod and he caught some fish and then he walked home. He had some fish sandwiches and then he went back to fish and the shark bit the line and Paddington went under

^ water with the shark and then Paddington did karate on the shark and he swam ashore and went home and he had tea and then he went to bed. Ryan Big Fat Bear One day big fat bear was having tea when along came a lion and opened the door. Bear was looking for his lost fish that he dropped. He asked lion "have some tea lion" he said "yes". Then bear looked at the food. Then he said to lion "go and wash your feet first". When lion went to wash his feet. Bear ate and ate and got fatter and fatter until he burst. But the moral is do not be selfish. Jason How to have a haircut When a spaceman has a haircut they have a little clipper which has a little vacuum cleaner attached so the hair does get into a wire. It can do a lot of damage. How you have a bath In space you cannot have an ordinary bath because all of the water would fly ouf. So they have a big plastic bag. And they get into that then a spray gets the astronaut wet and then a spray of soap then

another spray of water washes it off and a sort of drier starts up. A spaceman cannot be wet after his bath or water might get into the computer. Marc Blood Thirsty Plants One day when James was watching TV he was interrupted by a news flash. It said that there have been animals eaten up by blood thirsty plants and they are in the area that James was in. James got up and ran outside. All of the animals had been slaughtered and only his pet cat was left. Just then he heard a noise. His cat had disappeared, he walked up to a bush and looked inside it. There was a big plant with long tentacles. It was just about to eat his cat. James grabbed the cat and ran to the house and got the bush knife. James went out to the garden and sliced one of the plant's tentacles off. It screamed and green blood came out then it melted to the ground. When James went inside he found six other blood thirsty plants. James threw the eat outside and started to fight the monsters. Green blood was everywhere. The leader plant put his tentacles around his leg and it gave James a stunning poison and he stood like a statue, until all the plants closed in crushing his bones. James struggled to get free but he could not. When his mum and dad came home they found his bones lying

in green blood.
