Red Cross educates
The Waimarino Red Cross are doing their bit to promote safety and self-help in the community. They are currently running two first aid courses in the Waimarino - one is a 10-week adult evening class which started last Thursday. The other is a first- aid course for the pupils of Ruapehu Coliege during their clubs period on Wednesday afternoons. The Waimarino Red Cross becomes an , emergency welfare unit in the case of a civil defence emergency and the organisation is currently concentrating on putting together 50 emergency toiletry kits. The kits contain! everything one would need' in the way of toiletries inj
an emergency. They also run a bedding bank which stocks sheets, blankets and pillowcases and all are available on loan in the case of emergencies. One such case was a local family who lost everything in a fire last year. Blankets and linen were loaned to them in that instance. Recently the stock of bedding has diminished somewhat and the Red Cross are looking for assistance from the community in replenishing it. All their stock was originally donated by the people of the Waimarino.
