Society set for active year

The Rangitikei branch of the RSPCA had a "rather poor" attendance at their annual general meeting held recently. Nevertheless, the year looks set to be an active one for the branch according to the secretary Rosalind Donald. The branch has had several changes in its committee offices since the beginning of the year, when founder and secretary/chairman Rowena Brown of Waiouru, left for Wellington. The new chairman is Tana Klaricich, deputychairman Karen Hopkins, secretary Rosalind Donald and treasurer Christine Meehan, with five

committee members- Kim Sipeli, Dot Burgess, Ashley Boorer, Gail Larsen and Gavin Knight. The report released by the chairman encompassed events of interest and achievement of the Rangitikei branch in its first year of operating as an official branch. Mrs Klaricich commended the work of former chairman Rowena Brown and the "hardworking and diligent" committee, for their work over the last year. She said fundraising to date had been very successful with a good number of family and individual subscriptions having been made to the society as well as the many raffles and cakestalls held in and around the area. The branch's 'Feed-a-Pet'

service offered to the public over the Christmas holiday period was well received and patronised in all areas of the Waimarino and Mrs Klaricich thanked the many volunteers for their work. A contribution of $1100 was presented to the society as money raised from the recent 'Staff Sergeant to Warrant Officer' course held at Waiouru. The money will be used to purchase dog kennels, cat cages and inspectors* kits. Fundraising efforts to date have raised $4278.42 for the society. Further fundraising in the form of stalls and raffles is planned for the rest of the year and the SPCA is confident of further support from the Waimarino.
