Pupils plant kowhai's

Arbor Day, 6 June, was commemorated by the pupils of Raetihi Primary School with an afternoon of song, poetry and stories. The school held a special assembly which was attended by Raetihi Borough Councillor and

Garden Club member Leigh Ryland. Mrs Ryland presented the school with three kowhai trees on behalf of the garden club and in turn was treated to items written by various classes and individuals about Arbor Day. Principal Geoff Lovegrove gratefully

received the trees which will replace two trees that were recently cut down. One tree was a self-sown Oak that had to be cut down because it was damaging property. The kowhai trees were planted by representatives of the junior, intermediate and senior syndicates on Monday.
