Great weekend for Ohakune Rugby
The Waimarino had a fine and brilliant Saturday for rugby. The first game up was the Ruapehu College v Waiouru Cadets A game at the College. In the first 10 minutes Regan Sue put over a penalty to put Ruapehu in the lead then Cadets replied with a try by speedy wing Mclntosh. Not to be outdone Ruapehu created a beautiful try with teamwork with Mathew Reid finishing off the move with a try and a quick conversion by Regan Sue. Both teams never settled down to the game resulting in three players being sent to the 'sin bin' and several fights through the game. Because the Ruapehu tearri could not get their act together because of their lack of discipline, Cadets were able to capitalise and score three more tries. The final result was 18-9 to Cadets. Ohakune-Kawerau From Ruapehu College I travelled over to Rochfort Park where I watched the Ohakune under-19 v Kawerau under-19 game. A brilliant game was played by Shane Sutton of Ohakune. Shane made some great two handed catches in the lineout and was rewarded with two tries. Grant Barratt scored one try and kicked a penalty. Mark Donghi kicked a conversion. Coach Swaine said he was pleased with his team's scrummaging but he says
that the backplay needs a lot of work. 'Tt was a good spectacle with both teams entering into the spirit of the game". Though the players in the team agree that they need a better turn out at practices they were happy with their game which was well refereed by Goose Grossart. The end result was 19-14 to Ohakune with Shane Sutton player of the day.
