RLBUILDING a completeiy wrecked 1 982 Audi would be an almost impossible job for many people, but not for Lew Palmer of Taumarunui - allhough he djd have a little help from a friend. His 'friend' is 'Autorobot', a car body straightening and re-aligning system, which makes repair work easier and more accurate. I he $30,0U0 machine, which was imported from Pinland, is installed in Lew's business premises - laumarunui Panelbeaters - and for the past year has been helping make his repair work super accurate. Lew's Audi was in a head-on collision before he bought it and the car had sustained extensive damage to its right hand side. An advertisement in the New Zealand Herald
calling for tenders for the damaged vehicle led to Lew purchasing it in late 1 985. fhecar has been worked on b.y its new owner on and off for about a year. Lew started repairing the car before he purchased the new work tool. Damage caused by the accident required the vehicle to be completeiy stripped down. After purchasing his Autorobot, Lew was no longer 'cagey' about the accuracy of some of the aspects of rebuilding the body of the car. "It gets it right, there's no two ways about it," said Lew. " I he system restores a damaged car body to its original form more easily, more accurately and in less time."
