Four Wheel Drive Ford Courier Ute

FORD New Zealand is extending its popular range of Ford Courier utilities with the introduction of a new four-wheel-drive version. The new one tonne utility represents the company's first entry into the four-wheel-drive arena, and when added to the two-wheel-drive versions of the Ford Courier and the six cylinder Ford Falcon will give Ford New Zealand an unmatched range of utility vehicles. The Ford Courier 4x4 will be powered by a 2.6 litre overhead camshaft petrol engine. This four cylinder alloy head engine will give the new vehicle more power and torque than any of the more familiar four-wheel-drive utilities in the marketplace. "What we are doing is importing some initial vehicles fully-assembled while we study a programme to assemble the vehicles locally," Ford New Zealand's saies and marketing director, Mr Reyn Penny, said. "We had looked at importing all our four-wheel-drive requirements built-up believing this clearly reflected the objectives of the motor industry plan. However, the speculative

fluctuations experienced in import licence tendering have convinced us we must look at local assembly." Mr Penny said the Ford Courier 4x4 would appeal strongly to vehicle buyers whose travels included demanding off-road driving. "The Ford Courier 4x4 is built tough and built to be competitive. I believe it will be warmly welcomed in the marketplace." The Ford Courier had contributed significantly to Ford New Zealand's strength in the light commercial vehicle market in the first three months of 1987. It was expected the new 4x4 model would assist in further enhancing Ford New Zealand's unmatched gains among van and utility buyers.
