Pony Club hosts conference

The New Zealand Pony Club National Conference is to be held in Ohakune. Planning for the conference is well in hand and further details were outlined at the Conference Committee Meeting on Tuesday 12 May. This year's conference is to be held here in Ohakune on the weekend of 20-21 June and is a big and exciting undertaking for the Waimarino Pony Club. The Committee of Management (the National body of the N.Z. Pony Club Association) will be meeting on the Thursday and Friday preceeding the Conference in the Lions Den. The Ohakune Branch will be catering for the conference on Thursday and the Raetihi

Branch will be catering on Friday. All seven National Instructors will be at the conference to conduct a workshop on the Saturday. The first session of the conference is to be held at the Ohakune Club from 2-4. 30pm. The sessions will continue on Sunday. On the Saturday night a dinner and dance will be held at the Primary School Hall with a live band. The highlight of the conference will be the workshop on the Saturday morning. The demonstrations will be open to pony club members free of charge. The programme for the workshop includes video — its use as a teaching aid, balance, fitting saddlery/martingales, lunging, con-

dition, Manual No. 3, questions to the panel. The conference is open to any person interested in horses not just Pony Club members. Waimarino Pony Club spokesperson Evelyn Cooper said with the conference being held in Ohakune it will never be cheaper for Waimarino riders to attend such an event as there will be no accommodation or travelling costs to pay. To attend all activities of the conference will cost about $61 per person, which includes the dinner and dance and lunches. Anyone seeking further information about the conference should contact conference secretary, Mrs Marie Allerby, phone 54-269.
